Honey Beauty Formulation Secret

Aside from its health benefits, honey can be your skin-care secret for a younger you if you know what to mix it with for your own formulation.

With honey’s active ingredients—pollen, nectar, and resins from flower extracts—it can help moisturize skin, delay aging and fight bacteria that mar skin quality.

Here are honey beauty formulations you can do at home.

Moisturizing Mask

Being a natural humectant (drawing moisture from the air onto the skin), it ensures skin is never dry by providing long-term hydration. It also enables moisture to be captured in the deeper layers of the skin. It’s easy to use—just apply some raw honey on dry skin and rinse with water after 15 to 20 minutes.

Clean Skin Pores

Honey enzymes can clean the skin well and keep its pores de-clogged and clear. This makes skin “breathe” more. Its antibacterial benefit also prevents bacterial buildup that may lead to infection and result in pimples or acne. Raw honey can also be mixed with jojoba (seed oil extract from a desert plant) or coconut oil.

Try mixing a tablespoon of raw honey with two tablespoons of coconut oil (or jojoba oil if available). Use this as massage “ointment” on dry skin, massaging gently in circular motions. Avoid the eye areas. Then rinse with water.

Skin Exfoliator

To get rid of dead skin, raw honey is your answer. With its nutrients and antioxidants and enzymes, it can help the skin renew itself. Simply mix 2 tablespoons of raw honey with a tablespoon of baking soda. Wet the part of skin you want to be rejuvenated and rub this gently on it in circular motions. Then rinse with water. Dead skin is removed, helping new cells to work better for a more radiant you.

Scar Remedy

With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory uses, raw honey can remedy skin scars. It promotes healing of wounds and skin tissue regeneration that leave off a light skin tone on the affected area, leaving little trace of it.

What more if you mix it with coconut or olive oil? This mix promotes skin rejuvenation. Mix a tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of olive or coconut oil, apply and massage gently on the affected area and then cover with a warm clean cloth. Wait till the cloth cools off. Regular massaging with honey increases blood circulation that helps skin cell turnover and skin recovery.

Acne Treatment

It’s so simple. Raw honey is known for its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. Acne is caused by bacterial infection and inflammation. Therefore, applying honey topically to the affected areas can do the trick. Let it stay for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse with water.

Bath Soak

Just two tablespoons of honey to a cup of hot water will do it. Once mixed well, pour into a tub of warm water. Soak in it. The antioxidants in honey will repair skin hurt by oxidative damage and provide protection, too.

Cuticle Moisturizer

Do you have dry-looking cuticles? Then try this formulation. Mix a teaspoon each of honey, coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar. Then rub the formulation on your cuticles. Rinse with water after 10 to 15 minutes.

Shampoo Booster and Hair Conditioner

You can mix a teaspoon of honey to a dime-size drop of your favorite shampoo. Mix well. Apply and lather on your wet hair. Rinse well. Moisture is naturally retained in hair and hair follicles are strengthened.

For a hair conditioner, mix a tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Rub gently from the ends of your damp hair, gradually working up to about two-thirds of the hair. After 20 minutes, rinse well.

Honey can be food for hair. It can transform hair from being dry and damaged to being healthy and shiny.

Highlighter

To lighten hair color, mix three tablespoons of honey with two tablespoons of water. Apply on hair and let it sit there for about an hour. Then rinse well. Do it every week. The honey enzyme glucose oxidase gradually gives off hydrogen peroxide that lightens hair color.

Sunburn Treatment

Because honey restores moisture into the deep layers of the skin, it is ideal for treating and soothing sunburn. And together with aloe vera (with its cooling sap), their anti-inflammatory benefits can hasten recovery from sunburn. Simply mix a part of honey with two parts of aloe vera and apply the concoction to the affected area.
